High Performance Asphalt designed to meet the standards of modern traffic conditions

SteelPave - Asphalt Surfacing

SteelPave is a high-performance asphalt surfacing, designed to meet the demands of modern traffic conditions.

SteelPave is a Stone Mastic Asphalt product which is HAPAS approved and is based on a European design which was first successfully used in the South Yorkshire area by SteelPhalt in 1995. It has been routinely tested to prove its on-site performance, providing detailed evidence of the benefits of using SteelPave.

Like many other products within the SteelPhalt ‘stable’, UltraGrip constitutes a very high percentage of recycled materials, 95% in this case – giving it added appeal to specifiers who wish to meet green criteria.

Contractor Approval

SteelPhalt personnel will give all necessary training and support. Training of a site supervisor will be sufficient to gain approval and SteelPhalt will keep a record of trained staff.

Skid Resistance

The unique shape and texture of SteelPave provides high skid resistance, present from day one and maintained throughout its designed service life, in contrast to roads laid with traditional limestone aggregates which lose their skid resistance over time.

Rut Resistance

High speed roads with extreme levels of channelized traffic are prone to rutting. Rutting is extremely dangerous in wet conditions as surface water flows down the rut rather than off the road, increasing the risk of aquaplaning. SteelPave is designed to be highly rut resistant, therefore making high speeds roads safer in wet conditions and reducing the need for costly maintenance.

Noise Reducing

As traffic levels rise, Local Authorities are increasingly confronted with public complaints about the intrusion of unwanted road noise. SteelPave has been used successfully used in sensitive areas to reduce road noise levels.

SteelPave Laboratory Tests

Laboratory tests have shown that SteelPave performs above satisfactory when tested on our Wheel Tracker.

Specimens have been subjected to a total of 100,000 wheel passes and our SteelPave 14 and SteelPave 10 products have been approved by UK Highway Authority Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS).
